Destination Imagination:
Info Session – Monday, October 2, 2023 at 4pm/afterschool in the Library
Calling all 7th and 8th grade SMS parents and students! Salida Middle School’s Destination Imagination Team is beginning the 2023-24 season! Join us for this info session to learn more and sign your student up. Registration closes on October 3 - spots are limited and may be available on lottery basis depending on interest.
Destination Imagination is an exciting and engaging program where students work in teams of two to seven students to solve STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) challenges.
The team is led by a parent Team Manager who helps the team stay on track but does not directly help with the development of their Challenge solution. If your student is a STEAM-enthusiast, budding artist or storyteller, passionate community activist, or loves to learn and explore new ideas, DI can nurture that curiosity and use it to build lifelong skills for success.
Last year’s team earned 1st place at the DI After Dark Tournament, 2nd Place at the Regional Tournament, and 3rd place in the State Tournament. There are currently 5 spots available for this year’s team.
Team commitment:
· DI is an 8-month commitment – please consider this commitment before signing up to participate. All team members must be available for tournaments (dates below).
· October practice schedule: Fridays on October 6, 13, 20 from 10-11:30am at SMS. Tournament travel on October 27.
· Team starts regular practice after school on Mondays starting October 30 at SMS from 4-6pm.
· As we get closer to the Regional and State tournament dates, we will extend practice to both Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6pm and offer weekend practices as needed.
· Registration fee: $50
· Three tournaments:
o DI After Dark – Golden, CO on October 27, 2023 7pm-11pm *Leave Salida at 3pm, stay overnight in Golden
o DI Regional Tournament – Pueblo, CO on March 16, 2024
o DI State Tournament – Denver, CO on April 6, 2024
