Dear Salida Middle School students and parents;

I am very excited to welcome you all to the 2023-24 school year at Salida Middle School. My name is Michelle Saab and I am honored to return as your principal for a second year. I had such a wonderful summer with my new baby girl and have felt so supported by our Salida and school community. I am energized and committed to working with you and our incredible staff to make this a really great school year. Entering my second year as your principal I am inspired by the commitment our District, teachers and staff as well as parents and community have to support and grow all of our kids.

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer and that you are as excited as I am about the start of the school year. We have great things in store for every student here this fall.

This year we are looking forward to our students starting their day in homeroom. Your child’s homeroom teacher should be a reliable and informative teacher that can serve as a go to staff member for both you and your child.

The Salida School District is moving to a paperless registration system called Revver with the start of the 2023-2024 school year. In previous years, a packet of paper documents would be sent to families and need to be filled out and returned to the school before the start of each school year. Please read the directions carefully in order to register your child.

HERE is the link for the District registration through the Revver program.  Please fill out all forms you find in that link.

Some important dates and information:

Our 5th-grade students will have a half-day of school on FRIDAY AUGUST 11. Students will  enter through the south, 5th-grade entrance at 7:50 and will attend classes and orientation activities  until 12:00. This day is designed to get our 5th graders acquainted with the building and their teachers and  allows all of us to begin to build relationships with our newest students in our SMS community. Sack lunch will be  served for 5th graders that day.

All students will attend school MONDAY AUGUST 14 (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders). Students will enter the building through their grade level doors by their classroom. All  students have a core academic class during period 1, so entry and travel time should not be an issue.  Doors will open at 7:50 and class begins at 8:00 each day. School is dismissed at 4:00 PM.

Back to School Night will be held on September 5th from 5:30-6:30. 6th-8th grade students and their parents/guardians  will receive locker assignments that evening.

Student Led Parent Conferences will be held the evenings of 10/17 and 10/24

Being on time is always important, especially during these first days of school. Students who arrive late will  need to enter the building through the front main door.

As you know, the first few days of school are crucial for goal and expectation setting in classrooms as well as for  orientation and relationship building between all students and staff. We are all excited to get to know and  support your students and ask that you make every effort to have them to school on time every day.

I realize having a middle-school-aged child can be a challenge. Middle school can be harder on parents than it  is on kids. Additionally, middle school is a time of great change, independence as well as physical and  emotional growth. Please know that everyone here at SMS is here to support your child and family. Feel free to reach out to any of us if and when a time arises when you need  assistance/support, have questions, or need clarification about anything.

Thanks for being a part of the Salida Middle School Family, and welcome.

Sincerely,
Michelle Saab
